About Crossing the Line
Crossing the Line is an immersive, fast-paced and original action-thriller describing the adventures, experiences, and dangerous conduct of four British Soldiers serving in operations in the Central American country of Belize. The story centres on a soldier called Jack Wallace who is serving a six-month tour of duty and is set in Belize and Cancun, Mexico.

The novel explores criminal activity conducted by soldiers in the armed forces and drug abuse associated with illicit drug cartels in Central America and the violence and dangers associated with being connected to those involved in the drug trafficking trade as well as the impact of social injustice on ordinary Central Americans. This is a powerful theme in the novel which leads to devastating, tragic and fatal consequences for the soldiers and Belizean people associated with them.

The phrase ‘Crossing the line’ consistently provides the concept that when Jack or his colleagues find themselves in situations both within the expected discipline of the armed forces and outside that environment, rules diminish, boundaries and acceptable limits of behaviour are either knowingly or forcibly broken and there is a continual tendency to go beyond what is considered acceptable by some members of the group. The novel ends in catastrophic circumstances and their expected intention ends in tragedy.

The moral undertones of the novel provide the reader with the understanding of the importance of sustaining and developing relationships between young men, built on the foundations of experience, loyalty, and respect and accepting that, whilst some relationships may appear strong and embedded, they can occasionally, be superficial, misunderstood, and capricious.

The novel is witty and amusing, thrilling, adventurous, suspenseful and action-packed with authentic detail of the remarkable and chaotic lives of soldiers living in the heat of the jungle amongst the Belizean population and involves several shocking and surprising events which later collide and synergise in catastrophe and adversity.
